This Week’s FOMO - Deadpool 3 Trailer!

Who is planning a trip to their LCS to comb the bins this weekend? This week’s FOMO issue is the 2015 Secret Wars #5, an issue focusing on Doctor Doom, Molecule Man and the Beyonders. A crumpled issue is seen in a brief shot of a fallen Deadpool in a wasteland landscape. Issues on eBay have climbed to $50(!) for raw NM books. Crazy to think this came from a tiny easter egg in a 90 second trailer.

Other books are seeing climbs in value, including the first appearances of Wolverine and Deadpool with New X-Men #114. There is a brief shot of a very Cassandra Nova-looking character in the trailer that is causing this book to rise again.

Don’t forget the awesome battle in the womb between Cassandra and Xavier resulting in her (supposed) death upon delivery (New X-Men #121).

Exclusive Interview - WhoDat Comics:

What is your origin story and where does your online name come from?

My story might be the same as others but a little different. Growing up I was an athlete but I loved cartoons on Saturday morning as a kid. My favorite being the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and others. Those shows got me into comics because I wanted to know where these characters came. Every time my mom took me to the mall, I went to the bookstore. I would read whatever was on the spinner rack: X-Men, TMNT Adventures, Spider-Man, etc. Years passed and I got out of comic collecting and reading. But when I got older, the movies started to come out. I jumped back in because I had my own money and could buy everything I wanted. The rest is history.

My name comes from my love of the New Orleans Saints. We yell "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?" to support the team.

What’s in your personal collection? What are you collecting, reading, or hunting right now?

My personal collection I have the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol 1 run (all first prints). I also collect all 1st appearances of characters of color and 1st appearances of female characters for my daughter. I am hunting for more female first appearances and key African American books. I am currently reading TMNT.

What are some valuable lessons you have learned along the way? Advice for someone looking to get into comic book selling? 

Valuable lessons would be to love what you collect and collect what you love. Best advice when getting into comic book selling is have fun, be patient, and do not be afraid to take a loss.

What are the best platforms right now for selling? 

 Instagram, consignment pages on Instagram like Elite Comics11 , Shortboxed and, eBay.

What challenges have you faced in the last year?

Challenges I have faced last year and every year is letting books go. Meaning selling. Because it is never easy to sell when you are a collector. 

What services does the comic book community need that currently don't exist? 

We need more virtual conventions. Elite Comics11 does it but we need more people doing it. Where you can buy from a convention if you are not able to attend.
