Established in 1954, The Comics Code Authority (CCA) was a self-regulatory body that set guidelines for comic book content. This was in response to public concerns over content deemed inappropriate for children. The code banned explicit violence, gore, and sexual content, significantly influencing the direction and tone of comic books for decades. The CCA's influence waned in the 2000s, and it was officially discontinued in 2011.

Henry Cavill Speculation
Rumors have been heating up recently as to a role for Henry Cavill in the MCU. Such rumors are nothing new, but insider sources reported last month that Cavill has definitely been cast in an MCU role, but exactly which role is still a mystery. This has led to much guessing, theorizing, and speculation among fans and collectors.
Fans have long expected Cavill to join the MCU and rumors have been circulating for several years now. Fans have been abuzz with ideas and debates about which role Cavill will take on. Suggestions have ranged from Cyclops to Doctor Doom, but the two favorite theories seem to be Captain Britain or Hyperion.
Captain Britain
Cavill himself has expressed interest in portraying a “modernized version” of Captain Britain when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter way back in November of 2021. Many fans see this as a perfect role for him and would pave the way for a new UK-based Avengers team which could theoretically include such notables as Kit Harrington’s Black Knight (introduced in The Eternals) and the recently reformed Emil Blonsky, a.k.a. the Abomination.
Hyperion
A lot of us really loved Cavill’s portrayal of Superman and felt like he got a raw deal when he was let go from the DCEU. Does it feel like casting Cavill as Hyperion, a character almost identical to Superman, is an act of trolling? Yes, it kind of does.
Hyperion made his debut in October of 1969 with a brief appearance in Avengers 69. This was followed up in Avengers 70 by a full appearance of the Squadron Sinister with a cover by Sal Buscema. Hyperion was created by Sal and Roy Thomas and Thomas himself has stated that Hyperion is a direct answer to Superman.
So where would Hyperion fit in? Well, Hyperion is thought of by some as a nemesis of Thor, but he is also an Eternal and we have seen him as a member of the Thunderbolts as well as a participant in Secret Wars. That leaves a lot of opportunities for the role.
All in all, the news/rumors of Cavill’s casting are being well received, regardless of which role he lands in, and we all look forward to seeing where it goes. Welcome to 616, Henry!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - mt1_comics
Where can the community find you online?
Instagram: @MT1_comics
Youtube: youtube.com/strictlycomix
What is your origin story and where does your online name come from?
I had read comics in my early teens, but I became a serious collector/ subscription holder in my 20s after reading the Thor Spiral & Disassembled storylines in the 2000s that lead to the Joe Quesada restoration of Marvel Comics from the 1990s collapse. The best stories written by Marvel came from that decade under Joe Q. That laid the groundwork for what would become the structure for the MCU. Annihilation Wave (new Guardians of the Galaxy team), Civil War, Winter Soldier, New Avengers, House of M, Deadly Genesis (Vulcan/Darwin), & Ultimate Stories- that was the sales pitch for the MCU. It all came from that decade.
I’m a huge Thor fan, so my logo and name is a play on the Mighty Thor. MT1 Comics is a play on “Mighty One” in tandem with my initials.
What’s in your personal collection? What are you collecting, reading, or hunting right now?
I collect a wide range, but primarily Silver Age and pre-hero era Atlas monster/sci-fi. Currently trying to complete collecting all the classic Marvel character prototype appearances. Professor X in Amazing Adult Fantasy 14, Thing in Strange Tales 95, Brother Voodoo in Journey into Mystery 57, and Dr. Doom in Tales of Suspense 31 are a few of my favorite examples, but really any of the Ditko/Kirby monster books that are a window into the inception of the house of ideas that became an American Institution and a billion dollar industry.
You have quite a collection of Mark Jewelers and National Diamond comics. How did you get into collecting them?
Some of mt1_comics’ incredible MJ and ND collection
I like collecting obscure and rare issues. ND appeals to me firstly because of the limited era and titles they appear in. Less than a 3 year window in early 70s. The connection to the military and how it was marketed to drafted servicemen during the Vietnam war. It’s a window into American history and how that conflict changed the dreams, values, and aspirations (of American soldiers) in contrast to the romanticized WW2 experiences of the previous generation. That transition and disillusionment gave rise to the 70s anti-heroes like Wolverine, The Punisher, and Blade.
Any exotic ones you can talk about?
By far my favorite in my Collection is a double insert error of Defenders #4; the first appearance of Valkyrie. I also have a double insert error from the first cover appearance of Man-Thing in Tales to Astonish 13. I have only encountered 3 double ND insert error books. The other was a Creatures on the Loose that I sold last year. Any high grade ND insert book can be considered exotic. Keep in mind those books were sold on Military bases overseas and in the US. They were thrown in footlockers, passed around for others to read, and were not considered a collectible that needed to be preserved like we think currently with mylar, boards, and graded comics. Very few survived that period in a high grade.

What are some valuable lessons you have learned along the way?
The First hard lesson was don’t buy every expensive Ratio Variant...lol! I am, however, grateful for that lesson as it pushed me to focus on primarily collecting precious metal era comics and (gave me) a deep dive into comic history and lore which has been very rewarding.
Advice for someone looking to get into comic book selling?
Collect books with the characters, stories, and artists you love and you will never be disappointed. Be sure to double board and bag everything. Mishaps are inevitable.
What are the best platforms right now for selling and buying?
Managing a YouTube live auction channel, I of course have a bias, but it provides education, community, and entertainment you get nowhere else. I have purchased from all the major platforms and each has their merits, but the StrictlyComix group auction format fills the void left by the loss of so many LCS locations. People love to talk shop when they pick up a book or two.
What challenges have you faced in the last year?
The comic collecting bubble bursting last year and the floundering MCU projects have made keeping the YouTube auction channel viable a challenge. Certainly compared to the previous 3 years. Despite those challenges, we continue to grow. Adding an additional 70 auctions to the calendar last year, including specialized shows like our monthly Vintage Comic auction and the Whale auction for higher end books. None of which would be possible without the support of the community, diverse roster of sellers, and a love of comics!
Comics, to me, is a reflection of who we aspire to be when faced by insurmountable odds. They inspire and sustain us through the inevitable tragedies of life.

Trivia Question Answer: C) Warren Ellis
